Sustainability is not an add-on, it is the core of every project. In our firm, sustainability is an integral interdisciplinary effort based on the unique nature and objectives of each client, his or her function, and the specific site. Navigating through often conflicting codes and presets to deliver the best client defined outcome is our goal, energy efficiency being just one consideration of a larger body of issues.
The greenest building is one that is not constructed, but repurposed, thereby limiting resources to what is needed by the new function of a future user. It is literally building on the construction of the past to meet the needs of today. Sometimes the best location is already taken.
